Ways to Santiago

The commercial company, CaminoWays has a very useful map as well as infomation about the various routes that all lead to Santiago de Compostela. Click here to view.
We have chosen Caminho da Costa, the Portuguese coastal route.
On what was planned to be our final trip to Europe from the southern hemisphere in 2015, a highlight was beautiful Portugal, and the highlight of this highlight was the lovely city of Porto. When the Camino called, and when we realised that we could revisit this city to start our walk, the die was cast - just one more trip. Just the one. Unless, of course the Camino deems otherwise! Time, and feet, will tell.

Why?

They say that the Camino calls you when you are ready. Well, it's taken a while, as we are both over the yardarm of life, but here we are. In May 2016 we plan to walk from Porto in northern Portugal, to Santiago de Compostela in south-west Spain.
When we realised that there is not one but many Caminos, and that it is possible to make the journey from Porto, the planning began.
There have been several recent films about the best-known Way, Camino Frances across the Pyrenees - the Martin Sheen film and a more recent documentary - but not too much in print or film about the Caminho Portugues, and even less about the coastal route - the one we plan to take.
The aim of this blog is to document our planning and our journey and to provide information to others who might be considering this route.
Bom Caminho!
